The cultural heart of Panama
About a 3.5 hour drive from Panama City you will find the Azuero Peninsula. Many Panamanians consider this part of Panama as the cultural heart of the country. After a stay in the cosmopolitan capital with its skyscrapers, you literally step back in time arriving here. Small villages where cowboys on their horses color the streets.
In this part of Panama the biggest Carnival parades are celebrated, as well as other folkloric festivals. The national dress, the Polera, is still being handmade here as well as the devils masks used in the parades.
The pace is slow and relaxed. But besides being the cultural heart of the country this region has much more to offer: the beautiful Iguana island is good for snorkeling, diving and a nice day at the beach, Pedasi and playa Venao are good places for (kite) surfing while around playa Venao you will find the most spectacular Canopy zipline tour of Panama and it's known for its great surfing opportunities. Whales can be spotted from July till September while the turtle season is from July till October. Whatever it is you are looking for, Pedasi is definitely worth your visit.
