A city with 4 different sides
Panama City is the Capital of Panama and the biggest city of the country. It was founded on August 15, 1519 by the Spanish conqueror Pedro Arias Davila. The city has 4 different and interesting sides worth discovering: the modern part with many skyscrapers at the banking district, a colonial part at San Filipe (better known as Caso Viejo), a green part around Cerro Ancon (a hill in the middle of Panama city) and the place where the city was first founded before it was destroyed by the famous pirate 'sir' Henrey Morgan.
As you can see: the city is very diverse and has for everyone something to offer during a holiday to Panama City. Of course a visit to the Miraflores visitors center (the Panama Canal) should be on everyone's itinerary. Here you can see and learn about the Canal that made Panama famous. But there is so much more to explore. It's great to walk around Casco Viejo, the colonial part of the city. Have a lunch at the Amador Causeway and bring a visit to the Bio museum here, a very interesting museum designed by the famous architect Frenk Gehry. You can go and spot tropical birds, monkeys, sloth and agouti`s right in the middle of Panama city. Cerro Ancon and the Metropolitan park are great places for this. Panama la Vieja, not to far from the Tocumen airport, is the place where the city was originally founded. Here there is a small museum about the history and you can visit the ruins.
Besides all these options within the city, Panama City is also a great starting point for excursions to an Embera indigenous village, a partial or full canal transit excursion, a visit to Gamboa and much much more. If you would like more ideas for your stay here, write us an email.
